Defibrillator
DEFIBRILLATOR FOR THE PLOTS
Former Vice Chairman, John Drayton, always wanted the Society to obtain a defibrillator for use at the Allotments, should any member fall ill while working on their plot. Unfortunately John passed away before his aim could be achieved.
However, fellow committee members continued their efforts and, in April 2022, they managed to secure funding from the North Lincolnshire Council Community Grant scheme. The funding was supplemented by the Society’s own funds and an order placed with Wel Medical for an iPAD SP1semi automatic defibrillator. In addition, the Freemasons Provincial Grand Lodge of Lincolnshire kindly donated a cabinet specifically designed to house a defibrillator.
On the evening of 18th May, Mark Farar from Wel Medical gave Members an awareness briefing on using the defibrillator and members were able to ask questions seeking clarity over various issues.
The new defibrillator was placed in the main shed at the Allotments on Friday, 27th May, and a briefing note given to every member of the Society. This advised members of the actions to take in the event of anyone falling ill and requiring the potential support of the defibrillator. See below.
On 25th June an official launch of the defibrillator was held at the allotments, recognition being given to the contribution made by North Lincolnshire Council Community Grants.
A second training session was held on19th August and was well attended.

WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE HAS SEVERE CHEST PAINS?
1. Stay with the person who has fallen ill and dial 999. The operator will guide you through what to do, including how to look after the ‘patient’, perform CPR and use the defibrillator (if required).
2. Shout for assistance from other plot holders.
3. Check if anyone present can perform CPR (just in case).
4. If someone is with you, send them to the main shed to get the defibrillator.
5. If an ambulance is on its way and there are plenty of members assisting you, send someone to the junction with Gravel Pit Lane and another to the allotment gates to direct the ambulance.
